How to test your Physics teacher about relativity?

How to test your Physics teacher about relativity?
by John Doan

Zitat:

I’m lucky to learn Physics with a teacher who always tells me what he knows. And what he doesn’t. He told me that he’d been told to tell us that Einstein’s theory of relativity has revolutionized mankind’s awareness of time and space but he didn’t fully understand it.

„Then why do we say it’s the greatest theory?“ I protested.
„Because all our scientists have said it, all books have said it, and all experiments have confirmed it,“ he replied.
„But you said that you don’t understand it?“ I asked.
„Even an idiot can still say he doesn’t understand Einstein, it doesn’t mean Einstein is wrong.“

And it works. I became quiet then, went past Year 12 Physics with top mark, and no one suspected I was an idiot. You see, if you keep your mouth shut or keep praising what others praise, no one would ever know. Does your teacher know you are an idiot? Or the other way, do you have a teacher who claims he understands Einstein? How can you be sure if your Physics teacher fully understands Einstein’s theory or not? And for that purpose, here is a test, any Year12 student can put to his Physics teacher. And be warned, he could fail (unless he has read this book.) .

Magische Waffen zur Stützung der Relativitätstheorie

„Magic Weapons for Supporting Relativity“
von Li Zifeng und Tian Xinmin, China

      Li Zifeng
Professor  Li  Zifeng

Zitat:
„Magische Waffen zur Stützung der Relativitätstheorie“

Li Zifeng, Tian Xinmin ( Yanshan University, Qinhuangdao 066004, China )

An Open Letter to the Scientific Community

An Open Letter to the Scientific Community

(Published in New Scientist, May 22, 2004)

Zitat:

The big bang today relies on a growing number of hypothetical entities, things that we have never observed– inflation, dark matter and dark energy are the most prominent examples. Without them, there would be a fatal contradiction between the observations made by astronomers and the predictions of the big bang theory. In no other field of physics would this continual recourse to new hypothetical objects be accepted as a way of bridging the gap between theory and observation. It would, at the least, raise serious questions about the validity of the underlying theory.

But the big bang theory can’t survive without these fudge factors. Without the hypothetical inflation field, the big bang does not predict the smooth, isotropic cosmic background radiation that is observed, because there would be no way for parts of the universe that are now more than a few degrees away in the sky to come to the same temperature and thus emit the same amount of microwave radiation.

Without some kind of dark matter, unlike any that we have observed on Earth despite 20 years of experiments, big-bang theory makes contradictory predictions for the density of matter in the universe. Inflation requires a density 20 times larger than that implied by big bang nucleosynthesis, the theory’s explanation of the origin of the light elements. And without dark energy, the theory predicts that the universe is only about 8 billion years old, which is billions of years younger than the age of many stars in our galaxy.

The Irksomeness of Einstein’s Special Theory of relativity

The Irksomeness of Einstein’s Special Theory of relativity
By Harry H. Ricker III

Zitat:

I presented the argument that mathematics was a language. My view on this matter was based on the following statement by Dr. Robert B. Fischer, in his book „Science Man and Society“:

The language of mathematics, which consists of its symbols and their relationships, is very much at the heart of the practice of virtually all fields of science. [40]

My view was also shaped by various statements made by Prof. Albert Einstein such as the following sentence:

It demands the highest possible standard of rigorous precision in the description of relations, such as only the use of mathematical language can give. [39 p.225]

Prof. Richard Rhodes II, a member of the Physics faculty, and a graduate of Yale University, told a story in support of my argument. The story concerned a statement made by Prof. Josiah Willard Gibbs, Yale’s first professor of mathematical physics. With regard to Gibbs, the following was taken from an article on him entitled „A loner’s legacy“:

Gibb’s work was so advanced that one of his great admirers, Albert Einstein, complained about one of his papers that „it is hard to read and the main points have to be read between the lines.“ However, Einstein also termed it „a masterpiece.“ Scientists have been reading between the lines since Gibbs first laid out the fundamental equations of thermodynamics and reshaped the study of relations between energy and the composition of matter into a modern field with implications still being found. [41]
