Physics as a science – some remarks on the workshop / Peter Marquardt. In: Physics as a science. Ed.: G. Galeczki (u. a.). Palm Harbor 1998, S. 5.

"Many an idea is born from mathematical abstractions like transformations, operators, probabilities, that do not have anything to do with physics if they are a priori and erroneously accepted as empirical fact or even replacing it. The most helpful side of mathematics as a tool for theory notwithstanding, physical thinking is quite different from mathematical acrobatics. The claim to have found the pot of gold at the other side of the rainbow doesn’t do any service to science; worse yet, untenable ideas of "orthodox" physics are defended against justified criticism by censorship and anonymous refereeing. This is why we have to leave the worn-out path of "orthodox" physics and to provoke fresh thought by constructive criticism. And this is why the present workshop is a necessity and why it was called ‚Physics as a science‘. It was initiated among a group of "dissidents" who disagree with the orthodox line of physics which has become more a religion than a science. Those dissidents, of course, differ also in some of their views among themselves.

But more important even, they differ essentially from the official line also by their unanimous vote against censorship and anonymous refereeing. There is complete freedom for all contributions in these Proceedings – no censorship, no refereeing. Everybody to himself and to his pet ideas. And everything open to free discussion. Progress of science will tell what survives."

Der polemische Titel "Physik als Wissenschaft" und die Benennung der krassen methodischen Mängel in der akademischen Wissenschaft zielen u. a. auf die Relativitätstheorien als eines der Hauptthemen des Sammelbandes.
